Preservation & Art – Media Archaeology Lab

PAMAL – Mingling teachers and students from different research fields in the deep-seated media and digital pole of the Avignon School of Art, the research unit PAMAL questions the concept of media ecosystem.

Based on the media archaeology approach this research program is divided in 3 projects: HAL8999, D.A.V.E. (Digital Art Vanishing Ecosystem) and DISCOVERY. The first project addresses the preservation of media artworks (mainly networkbased) produced with dead media. The second project consists in inventing, producing, creating by using media machines, economic or industrial strategies and usage as primary medium for artistic creation. The last project focuses on the exhibition of media art aimed at experiencing the artwork’s media ecosystem. This program, supported by the French Minister of Culture, is promoted through workshops, days of study and experimentation, seminars, exhibitions, publications, third cycle students and international conferences.
