The Bubble

My object was an Icebreakers container for mints.

Here I drew the box in a scale of 1:1 and 2:1 to capture the details.

I depicted the opening mechanism of the lid of the container. I am interested in the shapes and the movement.

The structure of the container led me to this concept of a house. I wanted the focus to be the rooftop which would utilize the tabs that open. I brainstormed a set of stairs and an elevator for reaching the top floor.

As I narrowed down my concept, I made a floor plan of the inside, as well as the rooftop. I changed the stairs to a spiral staircase inside. I began by placing the bed in the center of the room to anchor the design. Everything around the bed developed around that center. I planned a bathroom behind the bed and a kitchen in front. A dining nook is to the left of the bed. I planned a sliding glass ceiling in the location of the large tab on the Icebreakers container.

I began by cutting two circles as the base and the roof in a ratio of about 1:21 out of the stiff cardboard material I found at La Reserve des Arts.

I calculated the circumference and area of the imagined life size structure.

I used toilet paper to illustrate the toilet and sink in the restroom.

The kitchen area is constructed of wood, as it likely would be in the actual building.

Coiled paper represents a spiral staircase to the smaller opening to the rooftop.

The dining area is also constructed of wood with two small seats, possibly cushions for dining on the floor.

Two walls at either end of the bed separate the space and create separate spaces for each part of the room.
