DETAILS OF THE FILLING OF THE TIGHTS.
For this project, we decided to explore the concept of feeling good in your own skin and in relation to that create a wearable sculpture. We got inspired by the famous Victoria Secret wings that the angels wear during the big annual show. There is a lot of controversy around that company as they are said to be glorifying beauty standards that are unhealthy and unreachable without external help.
This project is also connected with virtual reality as beauty is a concept that plays a massive role in real life but in our times it plays even a bigger role on social media.
By creating this wearable sculpture we wanted to show how much people are able to do in order to feel good in their own skin. We came to the conclusion that sometimes people even go to the extremes and do things that are bad for both their physical and mental health as they struggle in achieving self-acceptance. After brainstorming we came to the conclusion that this creates a kind of contradiction. For example, women sometimes wear very tight corsets in order to appear skinnier. Sometimes they are so tight that they literally have problems breathing but they do it anyway as it allows them to look more like the ideal version of themselves they have envisioned in their mind.
