These were the process for this week. I complete with the character and the background set.

 

 

• Final Documentation

 

Once upon a time, there were so many tigers in Korea that they were missing people, which, of course, were considered to be done by tigers. No one has ever imagined ghosts or monsters. Because the scariest thing on earth for them was tigers.
Tigers can be seen in all traditional Korean fairy tales. The main characters of stories that fight, talk, makeup, and eat with people are always tigers and humans. Although seen in Korean traditional fairy tales, tigers have been considered very intimate and scary to Koreans. That’s why it’s hard to find scary stories with ghosts in Korea. When a person disappears or dies, people went up to the mountain with weapons and looked for tigers.
I feel very close to tigers who appear in many traditional fairy tales that I have read since I was young. The main character of every story I have read is a tiger, sometimes a bad character, sometimes a good character.
While making this diorama, I tried to express the same scene that I always saw in a fairy tale with all the tigers I’ve read. A tiger walking towards people late at night, and a tiger in my memory, to fumble through fairy tales.

Tigers are very precious animals to me. I have lived with many tigers so far. Because it is the motto in my life and the animal I always live within my heart. I have always lived with the courage and quiet strength of tigers as my motto, so the experience of making this diorama was very special. It is the first time that I have ever made a three-dimensional tiger by myself. It was a good study and experience.

I am still doing the set design for the character’s background. I will work more tomorrow because I was busy by doing some midterm studies.

SO I will update more pictures in this post tomorrow.

 

 

 

 

 

I tried to made them more soft and clear up the surface which made me to spend some time. You may not really see that this one has a soft surface but I dotn know what the photos are …. weird.. It does soft when i see with my eyes.

 

I had some issues with baking this tiger because I could not really find a good way to bake this in my house. I read some article that this is toxic that I cannot really use the oven that I used to use for cooking. So I checked that someone is baking this with hair dryer and I tried it. ANd it worked!!! (but I had to do it for a long time).

I tried to make a terrarium with acrylic board which was not a good idea (because I messed up) I will going to go to store tomorrow to check out another materials cause the stores are all closed in my town : / (i am living in a country side so may be I have to order online and wait for it again. for this, I will start coloring this as soon as possible because I think i have to do hairdrying thing again for a while and few more times.

 

This week was really hard for me for several reasons. I cannot talk about all of the reasons but also this week was lunar new year so I had a little time. Anyway. I almost done with the tiger.

I got the idea of making a terrarium while talking with Hazel during this week’s meeting. my idea was different but I really liked that idea of making terrarium with my tiger toy so I’m going to get the several items that I need tomorrow cause the stores are not opened during lunar new year days.

i also tried to make the legs for two times cause the first time I tired was failed. So for this process, It took my energy and,… time . but I like how its going for now.

 

It was hard to warm up (I mean make the sculpey flexible) because my grip strength is really weak as other people. It took some time to building up.

I was fun but my sister seriously hate it because she said it looks like a raw chicken. hahhaa…a.. I didn’t notice that until she said that which makes me feel the same thing .

 

Using Sculpey, flexible but thick wires, and the modeling tools to create the main character of the Korean traditional folk tale which is a tiger.

I am working with the tiger’s head right now.

Still working on, this is just the middle part of the process

I want to create a puppet show that can show a traditional Korean story.

My original plan was to create masks and costumes but I changed my mind to actually show and tell about what I love and interested in. So I will choose one of the traditional fairy tales from my bookshelf or some Korean history book to create or interpret the story in my own way. Puppet will be drawn and created with some fabric. But my more clear idea is that I will draw them and cut out a lot of characters with different emotions and movements to make the show richer.

i might need some different kinds of sets too, so  I think it will need some time to work on.

I could use my experience of creating a set and I also had the experience of making a shadow puppet show by myself last semester. This project will not be going to be a shadow puppet show but I think it may help to understand the process and how it works.

I am planning to change my plan a little bit by using a z-brush or blender to create characters of the Korean folk tales instead of creating paper dolls of those. However, I wanted to make a background really realistic by using some real stuff that I can get around nature (such as plants and leaves).

I will use the Sculpey to create the figures. I had an experience of using Sculpey to create some creatures before. The theme will be the same as I said above.

So If I choose to do the Sculpey then my timeline will be ->

• one character needs at least more than a 5hours.
• I will create at least 3charactes so It may need more than 20- 25 hours to edit them, and clean up.
• After making all the characters than I will put some colors on them (each one need more than 2-3hours)

 

The estimated budget will be – > less then 90 dollars (but is Korean money)

what I want to do is making narrative scrolls inspired from Korean traditional paintings and drawings.

One of my interests about illustration is combining my drawings and the Korean traditional drawing elements together.

These are the Korean traditional drawings that I want to look at it as references.
