Homework 9/7

I believe we were assigned to read this paper since it will make us, photographers, think and reflect about the world and what we want to transmit. Also, that it is impossible to run out of ideas, even the most daily or normal activity can be a source of inspiration for an artist.

I found this piece of writing really interesting. Since I was little I would always try and create either imaginary photographs or shots from videos throughout the day. When I read this I felt really inspired and in some way it made me happy that people do these, since I found it as a way to escape the reality and just admire our surroundings, even if it isn’t the incredible NYC, just what we have at home. Hiss starts of the essay by presenting the idea of deep travel by showing, not telling. He mainly uses imagery to portray what he saw that spring morning in New York. Hiss describes details. In addition, he is able to create an  impotence feeling in the reader. At least what I felt is that this idea of deep travel, generates inside my mind more urge and desire to go out and deep travel through the city. Just feel and appreciate what is around us. Not taking for anything granted.

If we can call this a technique, a way to approach this is by paying attention to details. What I would do is stand in front of something that I find interesting, incredible or unique. I would prefer something big, maybe an interesting building or an interesting scenario. I would start staring detail by detail, and look ways in how to capture that moment, how to express it.

What I could infer from this text that will be helpful for my future work is that they are stating that a picture is our canvas. Any photographer can choose what to pick from the world, from the environment, to be able to transmit what they want. By using deep traveling one can start paying attention to things that before may not be that important. Another thing that we could relate is that the whole world is an orchestra and we as the spectators we are condemned to listen. So we should start listening to all of the things that the orchestra is trying to portray and learn from it. Look for ideas everywhere, even in the most basic place.
