Response to “Travelling”

After reading the article by Grace Paley, this immediately led me to start thinking about similar experiences that I had gone through. Being a Canadian who has never lived in Canada and has been an  “Outsider” my whole life this allowed me to relate to similar experiences where I had had issues when migrating. Singapore a place where more than 50% of the population is made up of expats experiences lots of xenophobia and being on the busses in Singapore if you don’t appeal to some of the cultural values that they uphold they can also make comments and get quite nasty. Being a third culture kid i’ve been to many places and experienced a-lot of different cultures and have noticed times when people have either been hesitant or completely rejected me because I was different than they were. I felt that this relates to Paleys article as she wrote about people rejecting new ideas and sticking to the norm of that time and rejecting any kinds of new ideas.
