Tom Dixon Article
The biggest connection Dixon’s design has with this class is the concept of longevity. To create something that will last for a long time by having many functions was Dixon’s main objective. Dixon’s Delaktig, for example, has the capability to transform into so many things (storage compartment, chair, dining table…etc), allowing the equipment to have a better chance at serving people. Another connection between Dixon’s design and this class is the concept of sustainability. In the earlier days of Dixon’s career as a furniture designer, he managed to turn scrap metals into chairs that were praised and adored my reputation editors and designers. This part of the article taught me that there is always a way for sustainability and innovative design to go hand in hand. Although I agree with the general message of this article, I do not find IKEA furniture to be particularly dependable in the long run. However, I agree with the author that IKEA’s multifunction designs are truly innovative and useful.
(1) My Title/Theme
Ancestry Diary. For this project, I decided to change the function of this notebook into being something that will be passed down for my family’s future offsprings. I want all members to write down a page of what they think is the best advice for their offspring. Hopefully, this notebook will be kept and used for as long as my bloodline lives.
(2) 50 Years Later
My plan is to write down an advice every 10 years addressing the best advice or message for that age. Since I am 20 now, I will be writing down a message for my 20-year-old offspring. The change here is how the content of my message becomes different every 10 years when I get a little bit wiser as becomes a little more mature. I believe it will be the best for the physicality of the notebook to stay constant so that it can be passed down for generations to come.
