I am super excited to get to know my teammates. Roz and Nima come from the Parsons Design and Technology department, while Sam comes from Transdisciplinary Design. I had experience working with Parsons DT students last semester as a teachers assistant and found them to be a really, really sharp and talented bunch. Roz and Nima are no exception. Sam’s work and inquiry seems rooted deeply in exploring and decoupling design from existing power structures and relationships. I feel like I will fit in really well with them. We all start to collect readings about who Microsoft Civic Tech are, what their research goals are, what this whole Smart Cities thing is about, who are the advocates, what are the critiques, who is benefiting from the work being carried out, and what are the general goals. Also, we’re beginning to plan to reach out to our client. Nervous! But looking very much forward to visiting them and talking civic tech.
