New Direction – Hyperlocal Data Driven Narrative

Shifting gears this week and heading full speed into a new phase of my Civic Tech project. I had a very productive conversation with Eduardo last week which resulted in my proposing a change in direction for my project and research. I am now focused on developing a hyperlocal data driven narrative about perceptions of technology and the Civic Tech initiative from the standpoint of the South Bronx.

Recently, I reached out to several South Bronx based organizations- Bronx Community Board 1, Per Scholas Urban Development Center, The 3rd Avenue HUB Business Improvement District, Nos Quedamos, and the Mott Haven Herald to introduce my project and ask if I could interview representatives there towards building out my hyperlocal narrative. Once my interviews are compiled, I’ll turn each of these into a data representation, and post online via a custom platform, where hopefully users will be able to look through textual data in conjunction with video and audio interviews, and be able to gain further insight into the story I am telling via aesthetic presentation of data.

At its core, my project now aims to amplify discussion within the Civic Tech practitioner community around capacities of inclusion, while providing a window into the neighborhood of the South Bronx through the lens of perceptions of technology, and the Civic Tech initiative.
