- High line was inspired by a Paris project named Promenade plantée.
- In 2006, High line began to construct the railway into an urban park.
- In 1840, many business people came together to plan a railroad. This is the starting of High Line.
- Because of so many accident happened between freight trains and other traffics, Tenth Avenue become “Death Avenue”.
- In 1934, High line opened to trains.
- In the late 1980s, the north end of the High Line was disconnected from the rest of the national railroad system, because High Line would be destroyed.
- In 1999, Joshua David and Robert Hammond formed the nonprofit Friends of the High Line.
- n 2004, the New York City government committed $50 million to establish the proposed park.
- The park was designed by the James Corner‘s New York-based landscape architecture firm Field Operations and architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, with planting design from Piet Oudolf of the Netherlands, lighting design from L’Observatoire International,[8] and engineering design by Buro Happold.
- In total, funders of the High Line Park raised more than $150 million.
Our group chose this site because this is a famous site in the New York City. Also, the views on the High Line are very beautiful, so we want to chose a place contains both history and beauty.
