Sketches:
We began working on figure ground by identifying and sketching negative and positive space, using shading and contour techniques.
Figure Ground:
Before sketching objects and practicing identifying negative/positive space, we chose objects that represented ourselves, and sketched them. The objects we chose, along with others we photographed during our trip to the MET, were used to created the figure ground compositions. I tried two different compositions; I like them both equally for different reasons. The first composition is a bit more complex than the other, and has a spiral illusion in the background. The second composition represents simplicity, clean lines, and has a rhythmic component in the background panels. I really enjoyed this project. I love working digitally to create artwork. I was able to easily try different styles with the objects I chose, using Illustrator.
