Self Portraits
Egg self Portrait Using a sharpie marker.
Popped balloon me.
Mom in the Snow
It is difficult to capture the details of this laser cut piece. I made this for the tunnel book project using acrylic plastic.
Global Warming Troll
This is a paper-mache thirsty troll representing global warming. It is made out of paper tape and coloured using acrylic paint. The soft sculpture aspects are the diapers, ribbon, and puff.
Plaster Block
This was made out of Plaster and painted using acrylic paint. The 3 words I had to work with were Orchid, Scarecrow, and the Wizard of Oz apes.
Paper Toy Shark
The image with the blue background is a mock up, and the image with shark is the end result using the coloured in template. The first shark had a bikini issue, so I had to adjust that in my final template. (The feet the shark is eating are not mine.)
Modern-Contemporary Connections Post
Henry Hudson’s The Rise and Fall of Young Sen, Plate 6: The After Party, 2015.
As an artist I identify myself with artist whose work may fall under realism. I am an illustration major, and my go to medium is clay. The characters created with Clay are anything, but pretty; by embracing their flaws, and If anything exaggerating them, I aim to show people as they are, as does the artist Henry Hudson, and as did Manet and Courbet. Personally, Henry Hudson’s work stands out the most because of his sense of humor, which did not exist as much in many of the realist artists’ work. My work is not as politically heavy as their work either. I do try and hope to comment on society through my work. Henry, Manet, and Courbet were all individual artists with unique styles, trying to accurately represent their time.
My work is my attempt to truthfully portray my time. Although it may be one interpretation, it is still an attempt to capture the reality. The girl seen in the photo is a character, who may be vulgar to some, but she is a representation of my subjective truth. Her wants are like many; her desires are portrayed through her gestures and ways of presenting herself. She is a construction of how we choose to represent ourselves to society. Henry Hudson’s The Rise and Fall of Young Sen, Plate 6: The After Party, 2015, is another interpretation of our time, which may also be referred to as vulgar. The people in this work are not looking their best or showing their best sides. The scene is set in young Sen’s private home, yet he is being consumed with artificial wants and needs.
