Multiple Perspectives Reflection

My favorite part of this section was visiting a completely new location, and having to write about it. Getting to visit the Halloween parade was very enjoyable, but also having to write about it for me also became part of the experience. It really gave me the chance to reflect on what Halloween meant to me back home and what Halloween means to me back here, which I normally would not have expected to be that different.

The manifesto group assignment was an interesting assignment. I haven’t done much group work before, and this class gave me the chance to try something new. Being open to other peoples ideas will probably be something I will do a lot in the future, and being introduced to that was really helpful.

Peer To Peer Reflection

I never thought about people building up other peoples identities. How could one person create who the other person is just by being? The affect of one person on the other is much more clear to me than it was before. It was never something I thought of because really we don’t think of ourselves being ourselves because of other people. We think of ourselves being ourselves because of ourselves. Even the way i look at interviews has changed. An interview isn’t solely about the interviewee, but about the actual interviewer as well.

Creating an Alter ego seemed much more difficult than it actually was. The moment I heard about us having to create an alter ego I immediately became worried; I had no clue what kind of person I wanted to create , or pretend I was. When I finally came up with an idea on who I wanted to be I could not stop writing.  I really enjoyed being someone who was almost the complete opposite of me, someone who does what they want when they want and lived spontaneously. Writing my alter ego essay and being interviewed as my alter ego really did make me feel like a whole new person and was actually quiet freeing.

Memoir Reflection

Who am I? Whether it was my memoir essay or my first few months abroad that gave me insight on who I am, I can say that I have a much clearer idea on who I am and who I want to be than I did when I wrote my first essay. Now, more than ever, I know that I want to pursue doing what I am doing at Parsons. My last few months have affirmed what I said in my essay. I can’t say that writing my essay did not give me insight on who I am because really actually putting down on paper an incident where I felt self enlightened actually brought about a lot of enlightenment. I did not really know that the moment I wrote about meant so much to me until I actually wrote about it.

Green Christmas!

It’s that time of the year when more plastic, paper, electricity, and trees are being put to waste; it’s Christmas! Not to say that all this material and energy saving isn’t going to a good cause because I think most of us can agree that making people happy is definitely a good cause. We all love unwrapping presents so that’s how wrapping paper goes to use, and plus Santa isn’t quiet the sustainable type.  Christmas light bring us all back to our childhood and leave us feeling happy. Now Christmas lights obviously waste energy what with the electricity being left on all night.  Trees are not only being cut down to decorate our homes, but sold artificially as well. Now this is destroying our environment fist hand; trees are literally being cut down! Along with all those trees come ornaments, which are mostly made out of plastic. Let’s not forget all the extra stock being created for all our Christmas shopping to go under our trees.

Obviously people aren’t going to stop wasting all this energy during Christmas, but it can all be cut down. I wish we would see more green Christmas products. Even better would be the use of recycle products. Ornaments can be made crafted creatively only using useless objects lying around the house.  Christmas lights can be turned on for a limited time at night. Making Christmas a greener time of the year can’t be that difficult.

Bad Luck Spot Video Process

StoryBoard1_Nadine StoryBoard2_Nadine StoryBoard3_NadineTrying to come up with an idea on what I should base my video on all I could think about was people. Which people you ask? Well, the streets of NYC are filled with all those people; people filling every pavement on every street.  This is where my affection image or firstness image comes in; I needed to show close-ups of faces, which ultimately represent humans.

At first I took video footage of my walk from the dorm to The New School building, hiding the camera, and focusing on the people around me, but my video didn’t feel right yet. I wanted to focus on people’s reactions to things and create a thirdness image showing people’s actions in response to something, other than just random people walking around the street. After walking around NYC in circles, trying to decide what I wanted my footage to be about, I looked at the pavements I was walking on, a lot of which were covered in chalk. At first I noticed many faces drawn in a line; I found my firstness image! The faces are indexes universally representing people. Then I noticed a circle drawn on the ground that said Bad Luck Spot on it, and realized people’s reactions to that spot were quiet entertaining to watch, so I decided to film them, providing me with a thirdness image! The bad luck spot is a symbol that creates a reaction, causing people to deviate away from their path occasionally. Before filming peoples reaction to the Bad Luck Spot I wanted to show a secondness image, giving my audience some context to what my video is about and what people are actually reacting to.

I’ve collected all the footage, but now I have to put it all together! I have footage of faces drawn out of chalk in a line, which I’m going to start and end my video with, and in between I want my Bad Luck Spot footage. The video goes slow, so I wanted to speed the video up. Also I don’t want the people who responded to the bad luck spot to go unnoticed so I want to replay the reaction in the video.
