The mask is transparent; it reveals the human beneath the mask. This piece is a silent protest costume and a vehicle for understanding. Refuges have become real life human targets. They have become dehumanized. I hope to humanize the individual wearing the mask in the eyes of the outside world.
The mask is made using a vacuum former. Initially I was required to make a sculptured face for the plastic to be vacuumed onto. I made the face out of paper tape and plaster gauze.
