WE > FOSSIL FUEL

Notes: SS Documentaries Reading Responses

-2012 was the hottest year ever

-Sea change due to climate changes

-350.org (the number 350 went viral bc it represents climate changes)

Everybody realizes how much we damaged our planet so people are standing up to it.

-Planets getting tired. We taking the fossil fuel industry. (Cheats)

-Nobody should pollute Earth for free.

-We are running out of atmosphere. Especially the CO2

-Coal Oil Gas = CO2 (Must reduce CO2)

-Solution is Greenhouse Gas.

-Preventing us from doing it is money.

-Gus Soeth Co-Founder

-Eventually we can run out of food and water.

-25 years ago scientist introduce us to climate changes.

“Its not the end of the world. Its a start.”

-We need to save the planet. What we’re curious now is civilization itself.

-How much carbon is too much? 350ppm. Rn we have 402 part million

-Water 30 percent acid compare 30 years ago.

-DO THE MATH. Global warmings terrifying new math.

-Half the ice polar is missing

***2 degrees celsius, 565 gigatons tons CO2, 2,795 gigatons

We have to set a price for carbon.

This whole Coal Oil Gas thing is bullshit.

-It’s time to think outside the barrel. Most profitable company of human history ($137 billion) Rex tillers CEO of Exxon makes $100,000 a day. Exxon makes 100 million dollars a day. Rex Tiller himself admit that global warming exists. But some of the thing he’s saying is ridiculous. Bunch of lies. They need to stop exploring for new hyper carbons. Switch Carbon Company to Energy Company.

-One person can’t change Global Warming. We need groups to make a difference.

-Major Oil Pipeline = Game over

-President Obama wanted to do the right thing but he ended up not doing the right thing.

-It was to the point where 155 colleges stand up to fossil fuel. Maine College was the first college to asked to divest fossil fuel stocks.

-A freeze on new fossil fuel investments.

-Divest Divest Divest

-Good news. Theres plenty we can do. It’s possible to help planet Earth. -Solar Panel don’t lit itself up.

-The solution are in front of us.

-We are the last generation to finally do something about climate changes. If we make a difference, we can save our future children generation and grandchildren generations. We must all rise and fight pipeline industries before it affects human life and the disaster of Earth itself.

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING.-Naomi Klein

The royal society. (17th century)

The Earth is not a mother. (Earth is the machine and we are its masters. We are the engineers.)

GLOBAL WARMING.

-Oil

-Coal

-Gas

We’ve been treating Nature like shit. We’ve been taking it for granted and now we have to pay the price. We have to prevent this from happening.

The waste from a single operation is held one of the biggest ram on Earth.

The people that’s working in pipeline or industries are making a lot of money. They enjoy what they do because of money and they know what they’re doing to the environment.

We don’t own the land, the land own us. yh

Tar sand made tradition impossible. Tar sand destroyed lakes and oceans. The people of Canada filed a lawsuit on Tar sand company. They are targeting all Tar sand. The indian people are very upset about it. Very emotional about it.

Nature can hit back. Climate Changes affect us all over the world. Weird Weather patterns.

1 day there was oil spill that flooded the river. Everything changed.

We cannot go past 2 degree celsius or else Earth will release hurricanes and tornados and other nature disasters.

People care about the land and they need the world to know about it.

Squeeze the Earth, squeeze the people.

Indian people are willing to sacrifice their lives for nature because Power plant companies are ruining the environment. They are starting riots and causing lots of trouble. Polices are holding them back. Overall,  the results can be deadly (death included).

Proposed Coal-fired power plant. It doubled in India.

Why are so many people on the front line so skeptical?

Pollution in general is really messing up India

Because of the pollution, Indian people can’t provide food and water for themselves.

China’s pollution is tremendous. The people in China can’t see the blue sky due to the polluted sky. They’re going through the same thing as Indian people.

2014, the Coal Consumption has declined in China. It was the first time too. They are destroying coal plants.

2016 will be the last year of Coal plant for China.

Capitalism verses the Climax.

Pollution is slowly dying out and people are cheering for joy. The people made a difference and they are slowly healing Earth.

It is no longer India’s problem. People all over the world are struggling too.

“We are all part of this movement.”

We can’t control nature. We are a part of nature.

“What if global warming isn’t just a crisis?”

The True Cost

-Fashion Design

-What I discover?

Lucy Siegle-obsessed with fashion design for a decade. Loves everything about clothes.

-Sofia (CEO of something Tree)

-There’s a fashion system.

-USA used to make 95% of the clothes in America. Now its 3%.

-The style of clothes and good deal

-Zara,H%M,Forever 21, TopShop, etc.

-Price dropping is changing the game. It’s all about competition.

-Stuff like this is harming a lot of people. India’s garment factory is paying the price for price drop.

-When the garment factory collapses, a lot of people died. The funny thing is that the workers knew that the place was unstable but they were forced to work. They don’t deserve this.

-The workers only made $2 a day.

-Problem in the supple change.

-Low wages, Unsafe environment

-Fashion starts with a concept of collection

-85% of garment workers are women. They make at most $3 a day. A woman name Shima who’s 23 years old is one of the 50 million workers in the world. Her salary is $10 a month.

-There are problems that involves violence (beating up).

-Origin came from Cotton Farm. Cotton=Clothes. People are using some genetic powder to make the cotton grow. Texas has 3.6 million acres of Cotton. It’s not organic.

-This is a problem all around the world.

-When we throw our clothes away, our second hand clothes and shipped to places like Haiti. People from Haiti sell our second hand clothes.

-endless consumption

-H%M is the second largest cloth company in history

Cambodia demanded higher minimum wage pay so they started a Riot. Ended up with a bloody war.

our economy is based on…..
