Aphorisms

aph·o·rism
ˈafəˌrizəm/
noun
  1. a pithy observation that contains a general truth
  • “Fashion moves in space and time. It shares in the complexity of physics and mathematics, making patterns and networks, forming mazes and constellations. Through is forms we have an opportunity to re-unite art and science and to heal the rift of the two cultures”
    • I chose this aphorism to talk about from this passage because it was the one I agreed with the most. Being a fashion student, it really frustrates me when the people around me who are not even close to the design world (in general) simply assume that fashion is just “making clothes”. It’s much more than that. A long with sketching out a garment, there is an enormous technical side to it as well, and the majority of people do not seem to comprehend that. its a craft and it’s design, working both together to create ‘fashion’.

  • Fashion is intensely personal, in the same way that poetry is intensely personal. It is a medium through which personal stories can be told, memories re-lived and future foretold.”
    • I felt compelled to pick this one simply because it’s so obvious and honest. Fashion IS an individual. Fashion IS personal. This aphorism is extremely straight to the point and could not be more clear and direct. No one but yourself will be able to associate certain items of clothing with moments in your life. No one but yourself will feel comfortable and confident in what you decided to wear this day. Hence, it IS personal.
