Time: Metropolis

Short Segment written to explore my ideas and make them more concrete decisions about the storyboard/video narrative

Union square is going to be the outside location that i study using photography and editing/enhancing my images with illustrator. Due to union square’s unique location and wide range of provided functions for different people, its inhabitants are of a constant variety. This creates the opportunity to across experience a broad range of people from very different economic, political, social and occupational backgrounds. A park where one can witness a poor homeless man eating on the same bench as a wealthy office worker. My guiding concept is to capture moments of contrasting elements of time in relation to each other. For example, My first piece will be a photograph of the very slow and zen like chess players in relation to their fast paced surroundings. I might use illustrator to saturate the chess players while darkening their fast paced surroundings(people rushing to work) to represent the different emotional states each slow and fast pace activity represent. Personally, slow moving situations evoke positive emotions of tranquility, calmness, empathy and a sense of control/presence with due to the relaxed state of mind obtained by moving slowly. Conversely, i associate negative feelings of anxiety, doubt and regret with fast paced situations.

Within New york City there exists many converse relationships of time. A common paradox of time is sleeping/drugged homeless people experiencing distorted states of time while being passed by fast moving cars and people rushing around to their personal destinations.
