Robert Sember, faculty in The Arts, created a piece and led a collective listening event as a member of the sound-art collective, Ultra-red. The event was part of S/N, an exhibit that explored the complex dynamics of sound, in particular its tendency to exceed, disrupt, or evade attempts at its capture.

His piece, “Protocols for the Wojnarowicz Object, or What is the Sound of Building Up and Tearing Down?” imagines a dialogue between the artist David Wojnarowicz and exhibition visitors regarding the fate of counter-cultural art and sexuality venues in a time of rampant gentrification. He also facilitated a listening session as part of the exhibition. S/N was curated by Alex Fleming, Anya Komar, and Blair Murphy, Helena Rubinstein Curatorial Fellows of the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program.
