History of Fashion (Final Paper)

Italian fashion designer, Elsa Schiaparelli designs is the iconic Lobster Dress which debuted in Schiaparelli’s Summer/Fall 1937 Collection. This garment was a collaborations between Schiaparelli and Salvador Dalí. She is noted as one of the most prominent figures in fashion between the two World Wars. Throughout history, many images have been taken, with a story to be told from every element involved. The wardrobe, the lighting, the muse, and even the setting plays a gargantuan role in how the images is perceived. With a significant source of information capsuled into an image, the image can speak louder than words, but might become harder to understand. One might think that her relation to the arts allowed a bigger conversation about the imagery. Even though fashion can be categorized as a form of art, integrating other art to fashion creates a sunken contrast that allows the conversation about the cultural context, designer, artist, and the materiality, of the image.
