ELEPHANT

“When watching Elephant I paid much attention on the director use of sound, silence and dialogue. It was very interesting how she overlapped sounds and conversations. Elephant was a very emotional movie even though much of it was silent or had little sound. Each room of the school had different types of sound, for example the locker room had overlapping sound and conversations. The lunchroom jumped from different intimate conversations. In the developing room you could hear the water and chemicals. Even though the watcher wasn’t informed about what would happen until the last thirty minutes of the film, the insignificant dialogue and sounds throughout the film was a good way to prep for such a serious and intense climax. These intimate moments with different characters helped me realize that everyone has a different life and set of experiences that affects them and makes them act and think the way they do.”
