Studio Bridge 3

Bridge Project 3: Multiple Perspectives
Students will work in groups of 4. Each group will pick a historic district from the list provided. Groups will
create a map that represents the history of that of neighborhood in CONTENT and DESIGN. Students will
research the history, visit the site, and utilize many forms of “note-taking” (i.e. photographs, sound clips,
sketches, etc.) to explore the area first hand. Each map should contain a compass rose, text, a map
cartouche, symbols, and keys. Each one of these should be considered an opportunity to implement
creative and communicative design choices. Each group will turn in a physical map that is at least
24”x36”.
Due October 30th.
I do not have any sketch ups from this project, it was mostly done verbally, but we did have an inspiration folder.
Here is the final piece:
We were going to use a cork board, but since the person who was supposed to bring the cork board was unable to make it, we used a foam board. WE printed out the map separately. We used adobe illustrator to make almost all of this. The last material we used was the show lace.
I think that the critique went well only because they could see what we were going for. The critique was short. Someone asked why we used shoelaces. We did that to make it seem more youthful.
This project could have turned out better if our group was better at communicating. The assembly process did not go too well because we had to scramble at the last minute to reprint almost everything and pin things together. I learned a lot about working with other people and although I did my part, I wish I could have been there to see this project through to the end and make sure it was something we were all proud of. I think everyone, including me, did mess up somehow and was unsure of what their specific parts were supposed to be. Tiz and I were on the same page when it came to content but and were disconnected from the design side, which Micheal and Margaret were on the same page.
