Printed Matter Time Final

I started out this project with a book by Mattia Baigi titled “Black Tarr”. While reading into it, I saw that he was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s “The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether” and combined the visual elements used by Baigi and the symbols and story line in Poe’s work to create my work.

The transition from white to black represents the narrator’s transition from innocents to being exposed to the truth as well as the super’s transition from being sane to being exposed for the insane person he is. The rose is used to symbolize innocence. In the beginning of the story the narrator talks about how normal the mad house is. He mentions the flowers in the entry hall. In the second panel, I used ribbon. At the dinner party the narrator talks about how everyone was dressed in nice clothes but they were ill-fitting and not pieced together quite right. This is when he starts questioning the difference between being eccentric and mad. In the last one I sued feathers. The former patients of the mad house tied up the doctors and cover them in tar and feathers. This shows the insanity.
