I chose the artist Umberto Boccioni’s piece called ‘States of Mind’. I connected to this piece because of the way it drew me in. At first I felt as if was just looking at different directions the lines were drawn- going in unspecific lines. From far, the different shades and lines looked like a bunch of random thoughtless lines. But looking closer, I saw faces between the lines, expressionless faces and a new dimension. The people are facing different directions alluding to the fact that they don’t know each other, and they seem busy because of the bending dark lines that come out of them that look like movement. The random lines suddenly made me feel like I was outside, made me feel the busy rush of the New York City streets. The lines look like paths people take while walking, passing many other people but not paying attention to them. This painting of lines made me feel something real that I experience walking through the city almost every day, I made a personal version of these lines and paths of two people passing each other, and their busy minds, never getting to meet.
