In my culture the women dress modestly to show more of what makes them special, their individuality. Dressing modestly lets others look ‘beneath the surface’ and see whats truly under that surface, ones character. The lock on the woman’s skirt makes it look like the modest skirt is holding her back, making her oppressed. If you look closely, beneath the surface, you see the key is around her neck, and that she is in control.
I made the two characters using watercolor, then I scanned them and opened them in photoshop, added a background, a table, straws, a milkshake and the appropriate shadows all around.
