Lack Of Time By Alex Feder, Time: Metrapolis, December 3rd Time holds us. Time comforts us. Time gives us excuses and time causes love. Having time is a wonderful gift that adds comfort to our lives and a sweet, blissful calmness. But having a lack of time causes the opposite feelings to occur. A lack of time causes people to panic, to stress out and to feel overwhelmed. A lack of time causes people to feel pressured in various ways. Being in a world where we are so reliant on time we lost an appreciate for time. We wait for time, hope for more, yet we almost lose the value of that ‘so precious time’ by holding on to each and every second lost, one becomes a slave to time. You develop a lack of appreciation for the present time. Time effects everyone in a very different way. For my project I decided to make a sculpture of hands desperately and tightly clutching a clock. The hands clutching the clock so tightly represents the need and intense desire for more time. The intense desire turns us cold because in attempt to get more time, we do not appreciate the time passing. To represent time, I used an icon of time: the clock. The clock will be made with clay, and the face of the clock will be made on illustrator, printed out on glossy photo paper and glued to the face. Attached to the clock will be clay chains. The chains will be representing the feelings of being enslaved to time, and being actually chained to this feeling. This sculpture, first looking at it is confusing, but with taking a closer look, a viewer experiences firstness. Once described, the viewer can understand the sculpture more, causing secondness. And thirdness occurs when the viewer looks closely and sees the veins on the hands being pulled and tightened, telling a story about the rough hands, becasue the viewer can now draw a conclusion and story about the hands. I will be interviewing a stressed out college friend, a busy mother and a woman who is batteling a disease that steals time from her, ALS. These three interviews will be drawn through illustrator and during my presentation I will explain how a lack of time affects them. The illustrator drawings will be placed on the rough board under the hands to add the illusion of hands being on top, weighing on the figures
