Pierce’s theory of firstness focuses on the feeling an image or shot can give you. Firstness is an extreme close-up that is the only thing occupying your thoughts. It demands full attention and gives off the feeling an object or texture can give you. Their are two ways which this could be presented- to tell or to show. I chose to demonstrate firstness by showing the feeling the viewer receives.
I am creating an installation that will be hung on the wall in a grid form. There will be cube that will be closed forms, but with one wall that is open so the viewer is able to view inside.There will be 4 rows of 4, with a total of 16. Each cube will have its own subject matter such as, wire, concrete, bark, water, burlap, leather,metal,neon lights, and leaves that I will photograph myself. Their will be a stand alone piece to the right with a contrasting theory of thirdness.
