I have chosen to do my research on world renowned street artist, Banksy.  Since his identity has only come close to speculation, I feel that it is a great opportunity to create my own identity. I have been aware of Banksy’s work since 1999 back when I was a graffiti artist.  Stencil art wasn’t very popular back then, so his work stood out.

He has several published books that I recently discovered existed and of course the acclaimed documentary which was nominated for Best Documentary in 2011 Academy Awards.  Since his work is mainly done in stencil, it will be relatively easy for me to produce some art that could have been done by the famous artist.

I am toying around with the idea of creating a video or two of Banksy with either blacked out face and and a dubbed voice to create the idea that there isn’t just one Banksy and that there is a collective group of people that work in collaboration. I plan to use materials like creating my own stencils and fake documents to re-enforce my claim.  I will have physical evidence as well as some video.

 

I do feel fairly certain that there is plenty of content out there for me to complete this project.
