LP Post #4: Reflection of “Pink” at the Museum of FITThank l

Last Saturday, I got visited the FIT Museum for “The Pink Exhibition”. As I could tell, the exhibition was all about word “PINK”. Pink is associated with girls and everything feminine. From the exhibition, one object caught my eyes reasonably. It was “JeongMee Yoon’s photography, The Pink Project-Jeeyoo and Her Pink Things Light jet Print, 2017”, which inspired the diorama of pink girls’ toys. From our knowledge, we know color pink uses on girls, and color blue always uses on boys. By looking at this group of object, I saw all things toys in pink like pink dall, flamingo, pink calculator, pink baby clothes, which made me memorize my childhood. Girls all like pink, to me, most of the things I had from my childhood were in pink. The object used color of pink in different values like light pink, dark pink, carol pink, orange pink, etc. I interpreted the use of color pink is a symbolized color which memorized all girls’ childhoods and what girls all looked forward to having this young, fresh color forever through new generations in the future. My interpretation aligns with the designer’s intention as well. From designer’s project description, it says, “The idea is that pink is for girls and blue is for boys is ubiquitous today”, I believe when designer had this project’s concept, she knew it’s designed for girls. She thought about “PINK”, because pink makes girls happy, cute and playful. This object is clearly demonstrate about the color and gender in social conversation. My friend was with me at exhibition, both of us thought this object distinctly explored how pink memorized girls’ childhoods by showing girls’ toys all in pink, as well as desired the use of color which revealed feminism’s power that is something unique and distensible today in our society. From the gender, boys are not fit in color pink is what they think oftenly. Pink on them may make them think they are girls, so the color pink is the top biggest symbol of color for girls. I think the curator decided to include this project and put it near the entrance was a big bonus for me to see, because this object is one of the most interesting and special among the entire objects from the exhibition. Also, it’s the only one object is full of small items together and all things toys in pink. Other objects were most clothes and designs, as well as this project to me was the only one represented baby girls’ memories and what girls previously all experienced.
