How can one test a system? How can one test a system in context? What happens when a system enters a context for which it was not intended?
The system I am working on is textile, sustainable and healing. I found out that this system also belongs to slow fashion, yet slow fashion is obviously not something that majorities are supporting today. As a guest speaker in an event of Our sustainable Future: a Circular Design Conversation talked about that it is not the time to think about our designs, but to build our community, to expand the community to be powerful and influential. People needs to be educated and to know what is going on right now and what they can do better to make a better world. I am so inspired by what she said, because I remember some of the fashion designers told me about being into the sustainable world is hard, because you need to concern about what you are using, what will result once you produce it. You are taking responsibilities to make a better context, but the price is high and customers wouldn’t concern it a lot. So I think once you join into a system, all the feedbacks would tell you how the system is working and what might going to work in it. Start from a specific problem to find a solution through process.
Due to my color choice, I could test on people who are easily to get angry, and see if the garment could help with calming down his or her anger. And see if people feel comfortable and have a sense of security as a whole.
If someone is already in depressing and gloomy mood, he or she actually need some brighter color to make their emotion more balanced, and if they wear darker blue they might get more depressed from color theory aspect. Yet, because the color I choose is not too dark or too bright, they are more balanced in the spectrum, there would be warm value as well as cold value colors, so the garment basically is very harmonious.
