1.What is the core concept of your VIEW FINDER and why does it matter to you? Is it intended to assist during the next hurricane? Is it a sculptural interpretation of a particular “wicked problem”? Is it an information kit, a map, a portable community center?
– After I finished this corse, the problem with garbage was most memorable topic in my mind because it is responsible for everyone and still there are not good solutions out there for this problem. I want to emphasize the importance of recycling. It is still not a perfect solution so the next hurricane will be must happened, but it can be delayed and people could have more time to find a way to cover the next hurricane before it happened. My 3d piece is a information kit.
2.What overlooked or under discussed event(s) of does your VIEW FINDER DRAW ATTENTION TO or ATTEMPT TO INTERVENE WITHIN — AND WHY?
-People overlook the problem of garbage and the need for recycling because they cannot see the landfill with their eyes. My view finder draws attention because it shows the critical level of landfill nowadays visually, which were already buried under the ground so that people could not realize it before.
3.Who is the intended audience of your VIEW FINDER and where are they located?
-My viewfinder is applied to everyone but I want to show my viewfinder especially to young generation. In the future, they will play a key role around the world so their change in perception is significant.
4.What is your VIEW FINDER made of and why? What does this design make possible for your users’ experience? (does it help them slow down, hear/see differently, relax, pay attention, imagine geologic futures, is it reflective, does it float, is it waterproof? etc.)
-I made a support for a viewfinder with garbage that I used for my experiment, which symbolizing landfill. and I put a pot on to it to represent the ground. People can pay attention and imagine the tragic geologic futures more vividly by looking landfill directly ahead.
- How does your VIEW FINDER assist the intended audience in acting in ways that are more resilient AND “walk them through an inner space that is hard to traverse” -Morton?
-People now will realize and know the harsh and serious situation with garbage nowadays and they will not think that recycling is their choice anymore but it must has been done.

‘UNDER THE NATURE’
Experiment + 2D showing a process + 3D piece
If someone asks me what is under the ground, my answer would be “a huge amount of waste.” When I looked back on what I had learnt from this class, waste issues first came to my mind. No matter what happens, any objects or materials that human chemically made will never disappear or naturally break down. Therefore, it will be eventually buried under ground where people cannot see or imagine. Compared to how much human beings use artificial materials for transportation, toys, containers, clothing, packages for food and so on, only 27 percent of all plastics get recycled even though most of people recognize the importance of recycling. There are always side effects of the artificial materials, therefore, we need systems and people’s recognition that are better at sensing emerging disruption. In addition, to lower the amount of waste, we should reduce the amount of packaging used on products and we must recycle the used materials.
Recycling definitely helps to make a better world but it still never makes perfect sustainable world. Therefore, I made a 3d piece and a poster to show young people who overlook unconditional need for recycling. The youth including myself learned at school that recycling is the best for the environment and reusable products. However, people think of recycling as a choice because they sometimes don’t realize it is an imperfect solution, delaying catastrophic situation s rather than solving them. My piece will alert youth to rethink about the importance of recycling by experimenting and looking at the results. First of all, I bought flowers which represent nature and human, to attract audience with their beauty. I also collected some reusable bottles such as glass, paper or plastic bottles from my friends and myself. I found out that unnatural substances are manufactured for packaging almost all goods. I wanted to put them together to show the sharp contrast between them, so I decided to have three different conditions for grow ing flowers which are the pot(representing nature), recyclable bottle with water (representing a recycled product) and recyclable bottle without water (representing a landfill). As a result, the flowers from the recyclable bottles without water were almost dead and the flowers from the pot were more fresh than bottles with water. It signifies that recycling is not a perfect solution for nature but still it is better action than making a garbage.
I wanted to convey a simple and strong message with 3D piece, therefore, I decided to make a plant stand representing landfill with a pot that symbolizes nature and land. To make the stand, I smashed down all the bottles that I used for the experiment. I wanted to visualize the garbage and recyclable waste which did not get recycled and buried in the ground. Because youth can not see them with their naked eyes, they overlook the importance of recycling. My audience can see and feel the serious reality of wasting problem by looking at this piece.
Once upon a time, there were no plastic bottles, packages, or any dangerous waste. The harsh reality is that there is no longer any uncontaminated area in the whole world. However, still not many people push themselves to recycle every single time because they misunderstand that recycling is their choice. There is no perfect solution but only better decision. Therefore, people and companies need to strive for resiliency such as recycling and creating new eco-friendly materials or products. `
