Int. Studio 2: Catalyst Critique- Prao “Box of Goods”

Prao- “Box of Goods”:

For Prao’s catalyst project she essentially invented a box which had the ability to cook anything she wanted it to, as well as clean and wake her up in the morning (which Prao for sure needed). She imagined the arms would be made out of metal coils, which gave the catalyst the ability to stretch, move and shorten its arms when ever it desired. Located at the machines sides were where it would store the food and the cooking and cleaning equipment as well. On top of the box was where the stoves would be located and in the frontal section is the oven. She also designed the machine to have speakers and cameras which allows the catalyst to see what is infront of it so it can move accordingly. I truthfully believe that this catalyst invention is quite innovative, and creative and definitely resourceful. Although, aside from the catalyst being a splendid idea, I discovered  a few problems. One being, how would the machine be generated? Another, how will it be wired, will it affect the environment (maybe you should include uv ray panels), and how will it know what to do? I think you could maybe design the machine to be customizable. Meaning that if you don’t need certain aspects, such as a stove maybe you can replace it with something else that would be more useful to the buyer. Another thought that occurred to me was the idea that it could see everything out of its camera eye’s. Would it be recording my movements, and patterns and in that case maybe that is not always the best thing and a bit creepy. Although this machine is just a prototype, I think it would be a great invention/catalyst. Inventors are working on robotic projects all the time that are created to help our every day needs, but the fear of a technological machine with its own mind does tend to be a constant conflict that I’ve noticed. Aside from a few of the questions that I had and thoughts, I find this catalyst resourceful for not only prao’s needs, but everyones as well and it will take a lot for this idea to one day to be not only created but accepted as well.
