ARCHITECTURE OF SEVEN SENSES
“The current over-emphasis on the intellectual and conceptual dimensions of architecture further contributes to a disappearance of the physical, sensual and embodied essence of architecture.”
The problem of modern architects is not the fact that they want to be different but the fact that they are not. They have the need to create things no one has ever seen before but in that need they lose themselves. Modern architects do not think about people but rather about fame. They are taking something sacred and turning it into deplete. They do not think about peoples needs, comfort, privacy and freedom. They take it for granted. Yet ,they do not live in the world they made up for others. Making private spaces public, or totally ignoring the fact that people need to use their toilet or cook in their own house.
Architects make rooms where people do not feel comfortable, they shrink living rooms in order to extend the hallway. Architect became pervs and their design useless. Architecture should be eternal, not ridiculous. Architecture should change the world. Architecture is for people and there is no life in sterile architecture.
Every space has its own characteristics; smell, sound, texture etc. It triggers our memory, it takes us places.
If a door handle is the handshake of the building why do modern buildings have doors that slide or remote controlled doors? They are no more handles, no more handshakes. If that is a welcome, I do not want it. Just as with people, weak handshake does not mean very good first impression.
If primitive man used their body as the dimension tool and proportional system then why do we keep making spaces where we can not live in? Architecture is not just the façade it is space, space for a better and bigger cause, where people are raised and where memories are created.
