Reflection

The musicians performing John Zorn’s “Khebar” find the freedom to improvise through a set of shared musical traditions and practices. What traditions and practices have given you the ability to improvise and create?

Growing up in New Orleans, I was given an opportunity to learn and grow in a city with a very unique culture and creative group of people. New Orleans is a culture of many traditions and practices including: Mardi Gras, Jazz Festival, and the consuming of much crawfish, gumbo, and jambalaya! As a creative individual, I can honestly say that there is no better place I would have rather grown up.  These traditions and home-town festivities satisfied my creative outlet and allowed me to draw much inspiration through simply the experience of being a New Orleanian girl.
