Material: cow skin.

Due to plastic bags are used in today’s society. It is really affecting our environment. I would like to design a bag that can replace plastic bag but also fashionable. Secrete bag is made by cow skin which can support the weight and it is timeless material if owner take good care of it. Also, the cow skin can be natural Decomposition or reproduction. For the smaller bag, which is hidden inside of the bag, allows the user carry something that she bought instead of using plastic bag. The material that the small bag use can also be natural decomposition. For someone who loves to bring some food or some snacks everyday, he is able to use the small bag. After finished eating, the person can save those the bag into the main bag and use it for next time when he needs it. Additionally, as an art student, it is always a good choice to have an extra bag with me everyday, because I need to buy materials almost everyday. Every time when I go back home, I usually holding one or two plastic bags. Another situation, due to my classes are usually end during the dinnertime. I would like to buy my dinner outside and brings my dinner back to my apartment. Above all, there are so many plastic bags in my apartment, which are wasted. If I have the Secrete bag, I won’t have those useless plastic bags in my apartment, and it is also helpful for reducing the production of plastic bag. It is all about environmentalist.

User: New Yorker/ Art students

Most of New Yorkers need one or two bags for each day’s work, as same as art students who also need to carry materials every weekdays. This bag can bring convenience to people who always need extra bag and who loves or needs to buy something everyday.

 Location: New York /Chongqing

Those two locations are big cities, and have a fast life style. People need something that useful and fashionable.

 Time Frames:

The Hidden Bag can stay more than 100 years. After 100 years, the Hidden Bag can still be used or natural decomposition. For the material of cow skin, it can be decomposition into clay, turning into regenerated leather or becoming industrial gelatin.

Questions:

1) What three characteristics do you think are most important for artists/designers to have when designing for changing conditions and long-life designs? (what kinds of skills and personalities traits should they/you have?)

I think knowing the materials, knows how to predict the future trend and always think about the environment are the three characteristics for an artists/ designer should have when designing for changing conditions and long-life designs. Knowing the materials allows designer to perdict what will be look like after designed this product, and knows how to recycles the product. Designer also need to predict the future, not only the trend, but also how does the world will be like after 100 years. Then, the designer can create something that stay long. The last but not the least, always think about the environment. What kind of material can be natural decomposition. What kind of material is suit for long life design. If the designer have those there characteristics, it won’t be hard to create a long-life design.

2) What kind of projects can you imagine designers working on that would require these skills?

I think for making bag, or doing some design rely to fashion would require these skills. For example, making this bag. I need to perdict the trend about the bag about more than 80 years. Will cow skin still fashionable after 100 years? Is this bag’s style still on track of fashion? Will cow skin affect the environment after it is useless? Those questions I need to think above before design it or even produce it.
