Image information: Diane Keaton and Woody Alten, designer is Giorgio Armani, Film Annie Hall, Woody Allen, 1977.
In this image, Diane Keaton is having a Androgynous look, Baggy tousers, men’s jackets, ties worn like necklaces, white shirts, men’s waistcoats, wide-brimmed felt hats and glasses with heavy frames. During this period, the androgynous look had already famous in cinema, and this look not only remarked women were no longer boxed up by some distinguishingly looks, but also the rules of attraction between the sexes had definitely changed in late 19th century.
The reason why I choose this image is Diane Keaton’s this androgynous look remained me of the trend, unisex, that we have in 2016. For example, Vetements’s oversize long sleeve hoodie, and not only men love wearing it, but also a lot of female bolggers wear it. It is similar with the androgynous look, instead of one-piece dress or some cut and adorable skirts, some powerful women wears men’s oversize coat, it is another way of saying we are equal to male, we do have the power that male has.
For myself experience, I also like to wear some unisex clothes. However, when I was very young, my mother only bought me dresses, because she thought girls needed to wear what girls need to wear. When I am getting older, I kind of disagree with it. Who said that female should always wear dress? I think a lady wearing a men’s coat is anther way for expressive sexy. And it is another side of female’s beauty.
Image informtaion: Jean Seberg and Jean- Paul Belmondo, Jean- Luc Godard’s 1960’s Film À bout de souffle.
In this image, Jean Seberg is wearing her immaculate T-shirt with rolled-up sleeves, embazoned with the logo of the New York Herald Tribune. The reason why I choose this image is because that T-shirt has been irreplaceability in our life, and it is a garment that always on trend. Also, put text on t-shirt is popular nowadays. For example Dior’s ss2017 collection, “ WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS” has been put on a white shirt. Also, “ I love New York “ T-shirt that most tourists will get as a remenbrance when they visist New York. All of those kinds of T- shirts represent a period of time or a specific memory.
I remembered when I was in high school, my art teacher passed out white t-shirts and asked us to design and draw on it basic on our memory. And most all of the T-shirt came out interesting and fashionable. I believe it was because each t-shirt carried something specical and meaningful.
Image information: Marilyn Monroe, designer is Levi Strauss, film The Misfit, John Huston, 1961.
This image reminds me of the quote that Yves Saint Laurent said: “ I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression modesty, sex appeal, simolicity – all I hope for in my colthes.” Marily Monroe, one of the top stars in the world. Maybe, many people remember her by her famous sexy pose. However, I think I like this side of Marily Monroe in the image that I choose. In this image, Marily Monroe is wearing a bule jean, and a white shirt. She looks young and beautiful. I believe that this is the role that many girls would like to be.
For myself, I think the reason why this imgae is remarkable is that it shows the period of time that people start to wear jeans. I think everyone that least might have a pairs of jeans, and jeans is now in our life and become a garment that we can’t leave without.
