For the front shirt pockets, Tomoko Nagamichi’s patternmaking techniques in her book Pattern Magic helped make my sketch come to life.

color inspiration
My colors are first inspired by roses. I chose a deep red cotton fabric with a little shine, and paired it with a black fabric that has a green undertone.
Sustainability Aspect
In class, I decided to add a gray lining to my shirt. Instead of getting new fabric the same as my swatch, I found a similar gray scrap fabric and used that instead.
fitting changes
The sleeves were too wide for me, so I made it narrower:

I enjoyed making this shirt more than my skirt because I chose fabrics that are easier to work with – after working with a chiffon-like material, anything becomes easier. My last project influenced my fabric choices for this one because I learned my lesson to choose fabrics with more caution. My research heavily influenced my design, as I was inspired my Shingo Sato and Tomogo Nagamichi with their Japanese style origami and geometric aesthetic. I spent quite some time on pattern making, reading books and figuring out how to make my sketch come to life. I was also inspired by roses and their thorns, resulting in an edgy yet feminine shirt, enhanced by deep reds and blacks.
Wonderful…. Your portfolio shows you as a designer, how you process the job ahead and what you learn in the journey. Excellent
Thank you so much for your guidance Genevieve! 🙂
