When I went to the Met museum, there was a exhibition named”Global by Design: Chinese Ceramics from the R Albuquerque Collection.” I saw many interesting collections which combined eastern and western art. Combining Chinese and western elements, these antique collections looked peculiar and unique. There was a beauty of conflict.

As a result, I start to think what I can do to combine these two elements. September 15th is Chinese Moon Festival and Chinese people will eat moon cakes. Some Chinese people will add different ingredients into the moon cake and make it as western flavor dessert, but it still has original appearance. I just come up with an idea of making a 3-tiered stand with traditional Chinese painting which is about moon festival’s story.

According to Chinese mythology, the earth once had 10 suns. One day, all 10 suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved when a strong archer, Hou Yi, succeeded in shooting down 9 of the suns. Yi stole the elixir of life to save the people, but his wife, Chang-E drank it. After drinking the elixir, Chang-E’s body became so light that she floated into the moon. Thus started the legend of the lady in the moon to whom Chinese people would pray at the Moon Festival.
