Assignment
For the Bridge 1 assignment, I must find a pattern/connection in my surroundings and communicate it in a way that will create an understanding of the world. Through observation, think about the relationship between the object in question and how its arrangement will give it value. For instance, how can we take a stop sign and, while subverting its actual purpose, project an alternative message? The main goal of this project is to put out something of value and has a point of view/a voice

Concept: “Plug Out” is based on my street observation of on-the-go New Yorkers. Whenever I’m wandering through the busy city streets, I’ve noticed that most people are plugged into their phones. They’re in a hurry from one destination to the next, and they’re unaware of the sounds around them. I’m also not one to talk because I’ve also chosen my earbuds over noise pollution. However, it’s nice to just plug out and listen to all the strange/unique sounds that this strange/unique city offers. The idea behind this street graffiti is to subtly remind passersby to unplug and set themselves free from the noise of technology. It also engages the public domain. By strategically placing the stencils in telephone booths, it is creating the appearance of a person wearing earbuds.
You make good observational comments and some of the reflections really tie in well. Keep this up because it gives good insight into your thinking and approaches.
