Huilin Chen is a first-year student majoring in Fashion Design at The New School of Design.
Originally from Guilin, Guangxi, a region in southern China, Chen moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, when she was six years old. Her mother brought her to the United States in search of better career and educational opportunities. Through her transition from rural to urban, Chen developed an unusual curiosity for fashion and textile design.
Her education in fashion began at Southwest Career and Technical Academy where she majored in Fashion Design. Because of the extensive project-based learning the high school was known for, Chen learned the basic skills of sewing, pattern drafting, and design theory. She was an active member of organizations like FCCLA and NHS.
She is also a part-time cat mom and amateur coffee connoisseur.
