Reclaimed Cliche

For this assignment I chose to work with the cliche of women laughing while eating salad that often shows up in advertisements and stock photos. The nature of the photo conveys something ideally feminine.

When thinking about making this not cliche I decided the easiest way would be to make it something specific to me. I determined that in order for me to fit the mold of femininity set by women laughing and eating salad, I need to be medicated. My medication allows me to remain what society deems normal. Therefore I painted this self portrait of my face obscured by an orange prescription bottle

not like you, but pretty cool
