Final Project and Process -Ghida

From left to right: “I Was Big Foot’s Love Slave”, , “Bush on Cocaine in the White House”, “Lady and The Trump”, and “Obama Birth Certificate is FAKE!” Printed paper, Plexiglas(3mm) treated with a heat gun, and metal mirrored frame 50 by 100 cm (four times) My work consists of sculptural and printed elements that portray how images, stories, and specifically headlines created by the media are manipulated. Through this piece, I want to try and convey the idea that our view of the world is crafted and corrupted by the media and further impose the power of an image. The print created through manipulation on Photoshop initially were archived published tabloids, and the title of each of these pieces represents the main headline that was depicted on the magazine cover. The overlay of the treated Plexiglas is meant to reflect the obstructed lens that the media crafts. Along with my final project, I constructed a book that acted as a visual representation of the process behind my work. Through this book, I allow the audience to view my project in several layers. As they flip each page of the book, they unravel a layer. The first two pages consist of my project statement and my research abstract, following those, for each panel/sculpture I created, I first included the initial tabloid cover prior to manipulation printed on a transparency sheet. The following page includes a photograph of the treated plexi on top of the manipulated tabloid cover, and the next page consists of a printed image of the manipulated image solely. This order goes on for all 4 panels. To finalize my process and the book I include a few images that allow for my project to be taken further. This includes mock ups and future plans to further develop the thematic and physical aspects of my work. I included images that represented how my work could be regarded as a campaign in advertising and raising awareness on this idea of “fake news”
Object Redux “Gameworld”: Ghida

Object Redux “Gameworld”: Ghida

Both the original object and our “object redux” are of similar size. They both contain similar buttons/controllers and a screen. There are evidently several differences between the object chosen and the “object redux.” The act of gaming is diminished in our version, and instead, we focus on an aspect that is specifically the aftermath or effect of using this object. The lack of control over what appears on the console’s screen is also a noticeable difference that is emphasized for its much larger meaning. Man, in this day and age, cannot control media. The technique of incorporating ready-made media headlines and screenshots is a method that I want to further pursue in my final piece additionally to the use of multimedia resources. The concept of media and man is a thematic similarity between this project and what I would also like to pursue in my final project. I am interested in the interaction of capturing media and its portrayal through technology. Precisely how words, photographs, and images fail to portray a real life situation/event.

Project Deconstruction – Ghida Dalloul

For this project, I chose to deconstruct my Memorial project from last semester and challenge myself to translate the video and installation into a 2-D book. I chose to deconstruct this project specifically because it evolved and changed a lot from my initial plan. I used sketches and captured screen shots of the original videos to show my thought process and progress.

Curiosity Journal – Ghida Dalloul

When finalizing my curiosity journal, I made observations regarding my collection of images and selected from that. The first thing that I observed was that my collected images were very much chaotic and did not necessarily follow a particular theme. The next thing was that all of my images were taken zoomed in. I was inspired by the act of zooming into a picture on a phone screen(since I took it with an iPhone camera) and decided to place my photographs on a 2-meter metal rod bent in the middle creating a 90-degree angle. I then structured what I thought was my “chaotic” images, by setting up a specific order that permitted for a conversation between the pictures. Like pairing similar colors, structures, and images on opposite ends. I also integrated an excerpt from my Seminar curiosity journal titled ” Deciphering Chaos,” where I describe my thought process through the entire process and my everyday life.
