Concept Map: A Designer’s Collection

Project Directive

In the form of a Learning Portfolio Post, identify a designer’s collection to study for the rest of the semester.  Make a concept map that examines key themes in the collection.  This collection will be the basis of your seminar paper.  Themes within the collection will guide your final studio project.

Steps

Integrative 2 LP Bridge Post

  •  Select one of the following designers to serve as inspiration for your projects over the rest of our semester.  Even if you already have a favorite in mind, research all of the designers. Add a gallery to your post that includes 2 examples of work from each designer.

Vivienne Westwood

Issey Miyake

Alexander McQueen

Raf Simons

Rei Kawakubo

Coco Chanel

  • Select one designer.  Research several collections by the designer.  Make a gallery on your post that includes examples of pieces from 5 separate collections.
  • Select one collection that you find very EXCITING. This collection will be the focus of your semester work in Studio and Seminar. Add a gallery of pieces from this collection. Add a video of the fashion show if possible. Add info on the season and date and some written notes on the inspiration of the collection, the materials, the color story, etc.

Collection Concept Map

  • Make a word web based on the collection. Include questions that you have about this collection and its significance. Do this on a 18 x 24 in piece of paper. Photograph and add to your LP post.
