Bridge 2: Reflection

1. Why did you choose the object you chose?

I chose my beanie baby because it’s something that has stayed with me for most of my life, it’s one of the constant things in my life that I felt like I could pull a lot of experiences from since it’s such an old object. I also think it’s easier for people to relate to having a childhood toy since it’s a staple of our lives.

2. What quadrant or quadrants of the AQAL did your object relate to? And how.

My object was heavily related to aspects of self (individuality) and culture (the world around us). For individuality, it’s a personal object that I’ve had for a while, it’s something that belongs to me, which makes it special in my mind. For culture, the doll itself is a staple of it’s time, beanie babies were popular in the late 90’s and had a cultural impact with their sales.

3. What is your Tag Line – or what is ONE SENTENCE that describes the thesis of your narrative?

Nostalgia in a linear, but fluid, story.

4. What medium did you choose? Why?

I decided to use simple pen drawings because the line work reminds me of children’s books. I also used the booklet format for the same reason.

5. What context would you like your viewers to know about your subject or the medium that/ us will help them understand your work better?

The work is meant to embody nostalgia and storytelling, I think it’s very easy to understand.
