Bridge 5 – Final Reflection

  1. What learning/ learning topic or learning process did you find yourself using throughout the semester?Research and documentation was something I used a lot during the semester since it’s a skill that nearly everyone has to use, whether large or small. Everyone had to put some type of research into all the work they submitted in order to explain it to the audience. Documentation was necessary for all works as well.

  1. Where did you use it (in life, in class, in other classes)?Generally in school, other classes required me to research work and document that work too.

  1. What learning did you make about systems or strategies (in society, in making, in research, etc.) do you want to bring into your future semesters, dig into deeper, or explore with other people?I learned that there are systems and strategies in places where you wouldn’t except, a lot of things are very organized and are the way they are for a certain reason. Hopefully, I can integrate this into future work.

  1. What is one ah-ha that you had? What did you learn?I don’t think I had any ‘aha’ moments, although I did learn a lot about to analyze every aspect of an artwork to find deeper meaning.

  1. Select two highlights from your first year. These highlights might consist of major projects or papers. A highlight could also be a productive class debate, a journal entry, a materials experiment, an illuminating course trip, or a new skill. This is a deep look at your work.
    1. Planning: Show your preparatory steps for both highlights. What initiated these? How did you plan for the different steps? How would you prepare differently next time?A highlight/skill I learned is that it’s okay to exercise your strengths. When I say that I mean that it’s okay to use a medium you’re comfortable with and know how to use, it’s also okay to explore further and use a different approach. Another skill I learned was creativity, I think people assume that just because someone does art, that means they’re creative, but I don’t think so. Someone can be the least ‘artistic’ person there is, but can still have a extraordinarily creative mind when it comes to things like problem solving and navigating through life.
    2. Outcome: Show what was explored/ made/ written/ researched. Write a clear description of each item. Add media components (images, galleries, video, excerpts, etc.).I mostly drew for my classes, which involved regular sketches did in pencil, lined with pen, and sometimes edited in illustrator.

  1. If you could tell future students anything from what you learned during this year, what would it be? (Not just in this class – but overall in life about first year at college.)I think one of the most important things that should be focused on during your first year of college is your mental health, since you’re at a pivotal moment in your life you may experience a lot of anxiety and an overall feeling of being overwhelmed. Being in the right head space can help you achieve a lot, even if it’s hard to get to that ideal place.

  1. Write a conclusion that looks toward future interests, questions, and courses. This is where you’re heading.
    1. What new questions do you want to pursue in the future?
    2. How might one project generate another?
    3. What new skills/techniques do you want to learn?I hope in the future I development a more efficient way to document my process, usually when I do my work I forget to compile all the documentation of how I go to the final outcome. I think it’s easier to appreciate a piece when you can see the work and thought process put behind it, rather than something pretty to look at. I wanna learn how to think outside of the box more and become more innovative with the work I make.

Your writing is so honest and vulnerable. It takes a lot of courage to share your personal experiences like that. Drop in to my digital space: festival chairs
