Interlude B

For Interlude B, I chose to expand on the idea of languages and culture. I chose to grow from the idea of sounds of different voices that are speaking in different languages. The languages that I chose to focus on were English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Italian, German, Polish and Danish. I chose to capture as many different cultures as possible.

For Interlude B, I chose to specifically focus on sounds and voices of people from different countries portraying different cultures. This project is 3 minutes and 41 seconds long. It will be presented in the bathroom with no lights and I will just play the sound.

It consists of voices of my friends and myself, speaking in our own languages. Languages such as French, English, Hindi, Arabic, Polish, Danish, German and Chinese. Moreover, for background music, I have added songs from different years that represent different countries.

There are 6 songs in this audio which are:

  1. 周杰倫 Jay Chou【紅塵客棧 Hong-Chen-Ke-Zhan】(2012) – representing Tai wan – consisting of 3 groups of languages Taiwanese, Hakka, Mandarin that present families and ancestors.
  2. Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby (1989) – representing British hip hop culture.
  3. Don Omar Ft. Lucenzo, Daddy Yankee, Akon & Pitbull – Danza Kuduro (2010) – represents Spain and Portugal and the historical influences, primarily based on pre-Roman celtic and Iberian culture.
  4. VINTAGE ARABIC MUSIC Prof Mohamed Abd el-Wahab on CAIROPHON BDA177-6 (78 rpm Record) (2009) – portraying Arabic culture and history of politics.
  5. Chitthi Aayi Hai – Pankaj Udhas Superhit Old Hindi Ghazal Song (1986) – this song portrays Indian culture – it presents the artistic heritage of societies and governments.
  6. Czesław Niemen – Dziwny jest ten świat (1968) – represents culture of Poland and the history of the politics within Poland.

The purpose of this project being presented in a dark room with no lights and no images is to present the idea of being physically in one city or a place and surrounded by people from different countries that may or may not believe in different religions and traditions.
