For my Zero Waste Dress, I challenged myself to not only use the entire fabric without any waste, but also to make as few pattern pieces as possible. I enjoyed the process of draping and playing with the fabric on the dress form.
After roughly deciding on the style and drape of my dress, I chose a beautiful Silk Charmeuse in a deep wine color which I thought would fall really well on the body. I baby hemmed the entire fabric/pieces before sewing it all together.
This is how my piece of fabric looked before I began constructing the dress. The dashed lines are stitches, while the black lines indicate where I cut. My final dress ended up being 2 pieces of fabric, The rectangular panel on the left was sewn into the back of the dress. The curved lines is where I sewed in my bias tape to create a tunnel for gathers around the waist.
Here are some detail shots of the dress. To make the dress more interesting and dynamic, I used grommets to attach the neckpiece, and cut a chain to the exact size I needed. I then threaded it through my grommets and used pliers to close the links shut.
