1. IAC- Screen Printed Glass

The Use of the Screen Printed Glass adds a layer of privacy to the inhabitants of the IAC because while people pass by the building, all they see is the facade, however, in the inside it is very easy to see what is happening on outside. This is important for the feel of the people inside because the lobby seems to also serve as an event space where people can feel like they are a part of the city while maintaining a level of privacy and exclusivity. The IAC also uses a lot of concrete in the inside of the building which adds a very clean look which consequently makes the lobby feel empty and lacking. The Lobby tries to make up for this by featuring a large HD screen that fills up the lobby and yet, is hiding behind concrete pillars and that makes the screen feel gimmicky and like an after thought.

2. Vision Machine- Steel

The Vision Machine features a large amount of steel frames that are very irregular and vary in dimension. This makes it feel as if the steel frames are stacked as if they were a bunch of bricks. This also makes the building feel very heavy, which is strange because once you enter through the front entrance you are able to look up and see all the negative space created from this stacking method.

3. Shutter House- Steel

The shutter house is named so because of the garage style openings that accompany the facade. This Steel door helps regulate the amount of light that enters an apartment. This feature doesn’t only appear in the exterior of the building, but also as the interior because as the steel panels open up, they go towards the inside of the apartments and that causes the ceiling to be flooded with steel.

4. Chelsea Modern- Concrete

The building is very reminiscent of the Vision Machine because it features many different glass panels which choose to be distinctive from one another. However, I don’t think the chelsea modern is as successful as the Vision machine because the organization of the glass doesn’t seem to have a rhyme or reason. Maybe some opaque glass panels are placed in areas that get more sun light but I wouldn’t know if that was their reasoning.

5. Maritime Hotel- Concrete

The Maritime Hotel features a concrete facade that makes it seem very heavy, however, it features small circular windows that don’t really seem to belong, instead, the windows should be as bold and heavy as the concrete and should be carved onto the facade instead of being pasted on top.

6. The Porter House- Zinc

From afar, the porter house seems very busy and doesn’t give viewers a resting place. However, once the viewer see it from up close, the viewer can focus on one face of the building. The zinc on the porter house also adds a nice contrast because it is matte, unlike the glass windows

7. Chelsea Market- Brick

The chelsea market offers a ton of different materials indicative to the industrial revolution and makes the building seem very rustic. It was also nice to see some wear and tear in the materials that the architects chose to salvage.
