The Magic of Fate

This is probably the most awkward situation two of them have ever faced. Both were standing under the clock of Grand Central and did not know what to say. They could not just pass by ignoring one another. Emma decided to go first:“Hi, Liv! Have not seen in you in forever! How have you been doing?” Liv immediately started acting as if nothing has ever happened to them, and they began catching up. Girls were so incredibly excited to see each other that they forgot all about time and where they were rushing. After their long conversation in Grand Central the two decided to have a cup of coffee together and hang out in the city for a while.Having been family friends since forever, Emma and Olivia have always been inseparable. From going to elementary school to entering high school, they did everything together. Dressing up and trying new styles of clothing and make up were their favorite things to do. Both Emma and Liv used to pick each other’s outfits, and do their one another’s make up. They loved to stand out with the uniqueness and dedication to their friendship. They truly believed that they would always stay by each other’s sides, and would never lose contact.During the most exciting time of students’ entire high school career, the prom season, after both Emma and Liv got asked to be someone’s dates, they, of course, started a search for their perfect dresses. However, Emma had a family trip plans a couple weeks before prom, so she could not go dress shopping with Liv, and decided to buy her dress on a website. Meanwhile Liv shopped in the Opry Mills Mall in their hometown, Knoxville, Tennessee. Right after they made their choice in regards to the dresses, both of the girls were extremely excited to show each other their prom outfits. They could not see one another before the actual day of the event. So, on the day of Farragut High School prom, Emma invited Olivia to her house to get ready for the big day. As soon as the two excited girls opened their bags, they realized that they had the same exact dresses for the prom night. Both of them really liked the dresses, which means neither wanted to be soft and let another one wear it. Liv got mad immediately, and told Emma to choose another dress. Emma did not know what to do, so she hesitated whether she should or should not go to prom. Obviously, she wanted to have fun, but she would have rather preferred to stay than share her only dress with Liv, who had already got ready to go, and did not want any compromises. Emma ended up not going to prom. However, Liv still went and had a great night. Her decision made Emma very upset and changed her ways of treating their friendship. Both girls had huge future plans, where they involved each other. Two of them were going to attend the same school for the college career. However, after their “fight” Emma decided to rather go to school in Washington D.C., where she was planning on going in the first place anyway. Meanwhile, Liv did not even change any of her future plans, and did not even care about what Emma was going to do. They stopped being as close as two of them used to be since the prom night; and had not talked since graduation. After they had lost contact for about three years, they met each other at Grand Central station in New York City. This meeting was totally accidental. Both girls felt really awkward at first, and did not know what to tell each other at first. However, they realized they got much more mature to forgive each other, start fresh and catch up on their lives. After finding out they had pretty much the same purpose of coming to the city, both of the girls decided to explore it together. Liv studied photography at University of Massachusetts in Boston, when Emma majored in journalism at the Georgetown University in Washington DC, and they both needed the thesis of their senior projects to be written over the spring break. Moreover, two girls wanted to get inspired by the most living and interesting cities in the world. That is why they met that day. After having a long conversation, Emma and Liv behaved just as if they have not lost contact with each other. They realized both of them did not even change, except got more experienced and mature in life. Having caught up a lot on their lives, girls decided to meet at the Grand Central Station again after their graduation from colleges, and actually visit and have fun in the city of New York. They decided to make Grand Central their meeting spot and whenever they came to New York, they would always come to the station. Now this place gives them really warm and exciting feelings. They immediately think of each other and remember how magical that was that they had another chance to return one another in each other’s lives.

The book will consist of illustrations of objects that had meaning in my life. Each object will come together to unravel the story about me. lived in multiple countries since I was young and had to go through different cultures. Each country had a unique atmosphere and background. Learning each culture and trying to fit into a new environment has been challenging but it has surely contributed in shaping who I am now. Throughout my stays in countries, I had a particular obsession in collecting objects that were unique to each country. As time passed, I grew attachment to these objects as they felt like they represented my special times when I was living in each country. Therefore, I felt that drawings of packaging of different products I encountered as I grew up would be a good way of illustrating my past and my present. This process means a lot to me because this was something I really wanted to create sometime in my lifetime. I think this year is the right time where i finally settled in and I am preparing for my next chapter in life. By creating a book, I want to reflect on my life and spend time to study about myself and how different chapters have contributed to who I am today.
