Matthew Teague and Dane Faucheux

This morning in my religion class we discussed Matthew Teague’s “The Aftermath.” What we don’t often discuss in class—though what, in one case, I’ve been paying close attention to in recent days—are the lives of the reporters and essayists we discuss. This is probably for the best. Most reporters, I suspect, would prefer we not look at them. But Matthew Teague wrote something this year about his wife and his best friend, Dane, that is tremendous. I encourage everyone—not just my students, but everyone—to read it: “The Friend.”
