This week in my advising seminar, we discussed David Lipsky’s book Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace. Most of the class has also seen The End of the Tour, the recent movie based on the book. On Thursday, Lipsky visited class to talk with us about his experiences putting the book together, the transition from page to screen, his life reading Wallace (and so many other writers), and what he thinks Wallace means when he says a book might speak to our “nerve endings a little bit.”
Lipsky also reminded us how important it is to hold fast to our taste—in books, music, art, movies, etc., etc.
Our time felt a little short, and I’d encourage anyone who’s interested, from class and beyond, to offer your thoughts below, in the comments.
